Phone Suddenly Drops Service unless on Wi-fi! -S22 Ultra
S22 Ultra
Randomly a couple days ago my phone dropped all service and only have 1 bar or an X for cell signal when we have 5G in our area. After talking with online tech support we went to the store for better support.
- Went thru all the eSim/New Sim Card troubleshooting
- Reset all phone/network settings.
Nothing works. I not have a $1000 brick that is 6 months out of warranty! It will work fine if on wi-fi calling and if I am driving around it will randomly pick up 5G service and work great (both cell and internet) for about 5 minutes and then it drops it again. SO FRUSTRATING!
We have been customers for 9 years and have 7 phones on our plan (Large family) but since my phone has a really small pixel out around the camera (an issue that I have had since owning the phone) they won't warranty it. It blows my mind that we can pay this much for phones and they have an issue that is obviously the phone and not from me dropping it or something.
I've read that alot of other people have had this same issue. Has anyone ever figured out a fix? I don't have an extra $1000 to spend at Xmas time!

I'm having the same issue since the October update, really pissing me off. I'm hoping the next update fixes it.

I know I am a bit late to this party, but I wanted to check in. Are you still having the same issues @Mross506?
Fireguy_6364 is right: the best way to know if the phone is the culprit is to see if the same thing happens on another phone right next to yours. Testing your sim card in a known working device is also helpful to see if your sim card is going bad.
I would also double check your wifi calling setting. There is a calling preferences option that can cause a lot of issues if it is not set to Cellular Preferred. You also want to make sure that your software is completely up to date and your not using any third party task manager or battery saver apps. Those can shut down ANY functionality if it is using "too much" data or power.
I hope this helps. Happy Holidays.

actually i missed asking one of my usual questions. are there other TMO phones around you? and if so how is their signal? if theirs is fine then yeah points right at that phone..
the warranty exchange part is pretty on point though..if your car was over warranty they wont do anything about that...pretty much goes for any warranty out there. some might let it slide if it were a week or so or a couple weeks but half a year over would be out of the question.

The issue could be with the phone itself. I had a phone that had similar issues, turned out to have some bad solder connections which caused it to erratic at times. I know you said they won't warranty the phone but you might want to have the board checked by a tech if you can.

I’ve already went thru 3 tickets with them and they say that since my phone can see the towers but not connect it has to be an issue with the phones antennae or board. Which makes no sense because when I do have 5G pop up, it works GREAT! until it drops out again. I don’t know how many miles a cell tower can cover but it almost feels like the phone picks up the towers service but then gets dropped off for some reason.
thats my point..iif it were the phone its either not going to work or it works..there isnt a gray area for kind of works..the fact that it picks up 5G still still points back at network..wonder if theyre doing any upgrades? they might be working on a specific band or something and thats the primary one your phone picks up? i havent heard of any network issues as of yet with the S22 Ultra
the usual average to make sure youre connecting to another tower is roughly 5 miles give or take. to still have a workable signal its about 2-3 miles. but a lot will depend on tower location and whats between it and you.

if you randomly drive around and it all of a sudden starts working again then its safe to say its not the phone..its your local tower or multiple towers..contact TMO and have them put in a network ticket for you.
