Voice calling on a cruise ship

Can I use WiFi calling while on the ship?

  • That depends on the speed and quality of the WiFi Internet connection. T-Mobile's WiFi Calling is fairly persnickety about the WiFi and Internet connection. I'd suggest having some other VoIP apps (e.g. Viber, Signal, WhatsApp) as a backup. Texts will almost certainly work. If you use WiFi calling onboard be sure to put the phone in airplane mode and turn the WiFi back on.

When I went to Alaska a few years back, I had T-Mobile service (roaming).  T-Mobile brags about its roaming with GCI in Alaska.

Might be different if you’re on Prepaid.

Depends on where you are going. I was told I would have service in Alaska,  absolutely none. You could tell who had Tmobile on board, we were the people paying AT&T and Verizon customers to use their phones.
