T-Mobile Home Internet setup video
Good day, As a user of T-Mobile Home Internet (TMHI), and someone who answers questions about the setup in this forum, I thought it might be helpful to post a few videos on the setup. There are many setup videos available, but the one linked below seems easy to follow and understand. For advanced users, you will find it boring. NOTE: if you are in an area where a T-Mobile cell tower is not close, your signal and performance may not be adequate and this service may not be for you. However for me and many others, we are within about 1-2 miles (line of sight) of our cell tower for 5G service. If so, you should get "4-5 bars" and get over 75 - 150+ Mbps download speeds. Also - you can change your SSID / wifi network name and password (please do so) during the setup process when using the T0Mobile Internet app to setup your new gateway/device. And, with the second video, if the user would have rotated his gateway a few degrees and waited and check his signal, he would have probably seen a signal improvement (the 5G antennas are located at the corners of the gateway). Most users find that using the process of rotate - check speed/bars - repeat, provide good results. Finally, use the include app function to set the gateway/device close to a window and inline with your cell tower (placement function in the internet app). I used "share location" and "camera" to point your camera in the direction of the cell tower in your area...seemed to work well. I hope this helps the greater TMHI community. Did it help you setup your T-Mobile gateway? What are your speeds (speedswill vary based on your location)? All the best!2.6KViews6likes14ComentariosRe: VPN issues, some work related programs won't load
@ALocke, while checking the TM forums, Icame across the following. While the customer uses Cisco, the correction procedure is the same - create a network, select 2.4 GHz, and select WPA for security. My company uses Cisco AnyConnect VPN. I've been having all the same issues mentioned in this thread and gone down the IT rabbit hole trying to remedy this issue. Finally found a knowledgeable T-Mobile technician that explained if personal or work VPN or systems are operating on IPv4 then you need to go into your T-Mobile home internet app > select network > click "+" to add network > name network > create password > select 2.4 GHz band > select WPA/WPA2 > WPA "TKIP & AES" > then save the new network and connect. Worked out my VPN issues and my security cameras are working now. Let us know how it works.23Visto4likes0ComentariosRe: I wish the T-Mobile Home Internet Gateway was JUST a modem!!!
There is also the HINT Control app, which I am using and allows a easier method to remove and add SSIDs to a T-Mobile gateway. You can read about it here:https://www.tmonews.com/2023/05/developer-creates-app-for-t-mobile-home-internet-gateway-devices/ I hope this helps.111Visto3likes0ComentariosRe: Router on the Tmobile 5G gateway
@Chocol8ChipTripyou can delete the SSIDs you setup using the T-Mobile Internet app - Home. > tap the Networklink at thebottom, highlight the network and delete it. Then on your router list your SSIDs there. This is my process and it works fine. I have the Netgear MR60 mesh system. Make sure your router is connected to the TM gateway via ethernet cable. Let us know if this works for you.12Visto2likes0ComentariosRe: Merge networks?
The T-Mobile gateway is originally setup for auto detect (2.4 & 5GHz) bands. Using your T-Mobile Internet app, log into your gateway, then use the bottom menu and click "Network" then use the + sign and add a 2.4Ghz band as usual. Once complete you can connect your other devices like thermostats and lights. I hope this helps.4Visto2likes0ComentariosRe: WIFI KEEPS GOING DOWN AND TELLS ME EACH PASSWORD I USE IS INCORRECT.
@Engineerff13, the following is a T-Mobile link to reset your Arcadyan gateway. The Sagemcom gateway is similar. https://www.t-mobile.com/support/tutorials/device/t-mobile/arcadyan-kvd21-gateway/topic/getting-to-know-your-device/how-to-reset-the-gateway-using-the-reset-port/1 Do you have a wifi router connected to your T-Mobile gateway? If that's the case, the wifi router could be the issue. In my experience, these devices either work or they don't. If you reset it and use the Placement locator app inside the T-Mobile Internet app, make sure the gateway is is in the most ideal location; top of a bookshelf and/or near a window with a clear line of sight of your cell tower. ¡Buena suerte!9Visto2likes0ComentariosRe: apps for local tv
@HarleymaxI setup a Plex server at home and watch the movies I ripped from our personal collection. Plex also has over the air channels too. you can buy the HD Homerun device that you plug into a home antenna on one end and your network on the other. I get CBS, NBC, Fox, ABC, etc. and it works great with no monthly fee. You can check it our here:https://www.silicondust.com/product/hdhomerun-flex-4k/ I agree with @bocaboy2591that the YouTube TV option is good. I was trying to get away from monthly fees. I hope this helps!6Visto2likes0ComentariosRe: app not.working for devices
@TyqndoI had a similar situation to yours. I resolved it by adding a wifi router, the Netgear MR60. The T-Mobile gateway (whichever one you have) is designed to provide you access to the T-Mobile cellular network, providing internet access. The gateways to not have robust features like firewall, NAT, or DHCP management. For more features, purchase a wifi router and configure it so that all devices point to the wifi router for internet access, and the router gets its internet access from the gateway (via ethernet cable). This TPLink should work fine:https://www.amazon.com/TP-Link-AC1200-Router-Archer-A54/dp/B09G5Y1HWZ/ref=sr_1_4?crid=3BY8IW7HYONOT&keywords=wifi%2Brouter&qid=1691504584&sprefix=wifi%2Brouter%2Caps%2C199&sr=8-4&th=1 Let us know how it works.8Visto2likes0ComentariosRe: Best way to report home internet problem?
@CStarYou are connected to a slower 5G band. Your biggest issue is RSRP and the band. If you can improve your RSRP metrics to near 80 or below and get connected to a n41 tower, your speeds will improve. Also, your SINR shows that your gateway is experiencing a lot of RF from other sources, which reduces your gateways ability to deliver a clean internet signal. Have you used the Placement Assistant in the TM Internet app? From the home screen, click on "More about connection quality" > "Launch placement assistant" "OK Lets do this" Play Video (if you like > Share Location - (you may need to manually enter your address). You will see a display that shows the direction of your cell tower. Pick up the gateway and move it to a different room or area of the house, and watch your metrics. Do they improve? Also, because the antennas are built in to the corners of the gateway you may want to rotate the gateway about 1/8th of a turn, stop and measure metrics, and repeat until you get the best metrics/signal.8Visto2likes0ComentariosRe: T-Mobile Gateway Extreme Heat Survival
I purchased a dual-fan setup and use it to keep the gateway cool. Cooling will help and may work well for you. One fan is placed on the bottom, sucking air in, and the 2nd fan is placed on to to suck air out.Take a look at the Amazon link.https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B074YJH3P9 I hope it helps!6Visto2likes0Comentarios
