New here! Here is your fix for connection issues and thermal throttling!
I have posted in some other threads on what to do to fix it. Please update your firmware by factory resetting it before attempting the below. But the firmware was just one part of the issue. It's the temps and wifi interference that's causing it all . Multiple YouTube vids proving my hypothesis. Here is the short version. 1.Buy a fan 120mm with usb-C connector from Amazon $15 that has pads on bottom. Also a can of PC parts duster. 2.Unplug modem. 3.Flip modem over and take screws out. 4.Take out sim. 5. Remove battery from modem(keep it just in case u need to send back). 6. Put back together and sim in it. Plug in. 7. Place on top of fan with air blowing through and out the top.Fan plugs into usb-C port. 8. Turn off internal wifi said and get an external Wi-Fi 6 mesh system. This is a process that takes a few minutes. There are like 12 SSIDs to turn off. Why they are all broadcasting by default is beyond me.(If you have multiple users it causes it to thermal throttle and the built in wifi router causes massive interference problems .) I suggest TpLink Deco, Tenda, or anything Netgear Nighthawk mesh. Google wifi eero(yuck) ECT. 9. Enjoy your internet worry free . Dust it once a week or so to keep it clean. I'm here to help anytime. Please reach out if you need help. I will be modding my 5G router for external antennas to get the most out of it but the above fixes 99% of users issues . Mesh network if you don't own one is about $80 to $300 depends on what you wanna spend . Fan is $15 Yes it will take some time but the built in wifi router (not their great 5g modem inside) is just not great. It overheats with a load on it, as does the modem which thermal throttles. The above should remedy MOST people's issues and if it still doesn't work, replace the battery, and send it back ! Hope this helps y'all! Hit me up if you need help or was as frustrated as myself with no real help out there !1.5KViews2likes8ComentariosRe: t-monile home internet is barely providing basic data speeds sometimds.
Slclemens wrote: I've had essentially the same experience. T-Mobile has essentially oversold their 5G home service that went from strong in the Spring to non-functional by August. Now they just claim they are congested and have no intention of expanding their capacity to meet the demand they sold. They say speeds ofless than 10, or even 1, out of the 150 they promised, are fine during normal waking hours, and if you don't like it you can leave. Pretty sure that's call theft and fraud. You are likely dealing with Wi-Fi interference if you are using the built in wifi6 router . Turn those off and get a nice mesh system. Trust me I thought I was gonna go bonkers until I did it myself . Also these things thermal throttle with heavy use. 5g modems get 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥. Buy a p.c Fan with feet and a USB power plug 120mm and plug it in the back then set the modem on top . Remove the BATTERY as well from the bottom. Great videos out there on why you should and how. Takes 5 min and no skill but taking 4 screws out. Battery overheats> modem gets too 🔥🔥> thermal throttles>>> crappy speeds.the end.2Visto0likes0ComentariosRe: t-monile home internet is barely providing basic data speeds sometimds.
Turn off all the broadcast SSIDs! Then buy a wifi6 home mesh network. Sad you got to spend money but the built in wifi6 modem is 🔥🔥 hot garbage 🔥🔥🔥. Then, flip it over and take the battery out of it, lots of great videos on tear downs on YouTube. Takes 5 min. Once back together, buy a cheap 120mm fan with usb-C connector , one with feet on it and set the modem on top and plug it in to provided USB C port. The short of it is the modem is overheating during use , and going into thermal throttle..lots of videos showing temps with a FLIR camera proving so. If you do that small mod, cost maybe $10 for a fan for it (should of been built with one TMO) , and it still doesn't stabilize your service then I suggest factory resetting it and again switching off all Wi-Fi broadcast SSIDs. Get a nice mesh WiFi 6 system like a Tp Link Deco , plug it in and your worries are done. Also, sadly Bars, don't really equal signal strength or quality. It's really a horrible indicator that's flawed on all cell devices. If you do ALL the above, and it still doesn't get the speeds you want, then I suggest as a last resort download cellmapper , find your tower and get it in /near a window as close to the tower as possible. Antenna placement is also 🔥 garbage 🔥 on these and many techies like to mod them with external connectors for amplified or High Gain Directional Antennas. Again also cheap and fairly easy if you can follow directions. The last step is for people like me who want the most out of the network. Likely if you do all I say here, and your firmware is UTD, and you still cannot get usable service I suggest returning it for a replacement and or refund. The kinks will get ironed out and TMobile is great about listening to their customers and giving them what they want/need . I am sure they will have someone who is engineering the next modem iteration take all the above into account.be patient and I'll be here to help if you need it1Ver1like0ComentariosRe: Do you have 1609 gateway firmware update yet and how is it working for you?
It shows 3 bars of 5G, I am getting fantastic n71 signal quality, and since the update the device has stabilized. I average over 250Mb download and 50 to 100 up. About 1 mile from tower. I LOVE it . Our whole family does. However.... There is always a BUT. The device should of came with external SMA connectors for external antennas, period. I am modifying my own device for my pole mounted Yagis. Also. Remove the BATTERY! It overheats and causes the 5G modem to shutdown when under heavy use. Firmware didn't fix that I tried it before and after. That gateway doesn't need a battery, this is home internet. The product is great already and getting better. Last issue I have is poor optional advanced menu for the device. It's vanilla as it comes. Coming from GoldenOrb, this is 5G for dummies and that's good and bad. Best advice of all is to immediately disable the SSID broadcast and buy a nice WIFI6 system that has some good reviews. I don't care what TMobile says their built in wifi 6 is hot garbage .There are about 15 SSIDs to disable so be prepared to sit for a while . You also may have to disable them multiple times to get it to shut it off. These wifi broadcasted bands really don't jive well with a smart home setup. Massive amount of interference between bands and devices that need to chat with one another . Shut it off, then buy a nice TP Link Deco system, eero (great devices trash software), Google WIFI6 , or any other WiFi 6 mesh home network! They are plug and play and you will thank me later. Last little thing. 5Gmodems get 🔥🔥🔥 hot! What were they thinking not building in a active cooling fan and proper heatsink?! I've torn this thing down and it could of been much better than it is without added cost. Replace the battery with a fan and bingo you got a solid performer for years. Also if anyone wants help modding their modem so it actually performs like it is supposed to I am here to help and give guidance. Doing mods is at your own risk but honestly they are simple and easy to do.1Ver1like0Comentarios
