Mientras esperamos la llegada de la temporada de huracanes 2014, T-Mobile ofrece recomendaciones para prepararse para las tormentas

01 de junio de 2014

Bellevue, Wash. June 2, 2014 – In preparation for the 2014 hurricane season, T-Mobile US, Inc. (NYSE: TMUS) is providing customers with some important reminders and tips to help ensure they’re connected with family and loved ones before, during and after any storm.

  • In the event of a power outage, conserve phone battery life by utilizing your phone’s power save mode, reducing use of apps and turning off unnecessary radios such as LTE.
  • Envía un mensaje de texto en vez de hacer una llamada.  Text messaging has a greater success rate of getting through any network during high-usage periods versus voice calls, since they require fewer network resources.
  • Make sure your phone is fully charged before the storm, and have a plan to recharge your phone in case of a power outage, such as using your car charger or having a portable battery pack on-hand.
  • If you have to make a call, keep it short. There will be a high-volume of calls in the event of severe weather.
  • Keep your phone dry by storing it in a plastic bag or other waterproof covering.

In addition to those tips, T-Mobile offers customers Wi-Fi calling, a unique feature that allows capable devices to make and receive calls via Wi-Fi at no additional charge. For more information on the Wi-Fi calling feature, please visit http://support.t-mobile.com/docs/DOC-1680.

For business and government customers, T-Mobile's Persistent Communications solution combines the company's Wi-Fi calling for Business or Wi-Fi calling for Government solutions with access to satellite services for back-haul connectivity. During an emergency, this allows first responders or incident commanders to stay connected using the same Wi-Fi-enabled phone they use every day even when commercial wireless networks are impacted by a storm.

"Our National Engineering Response and Crisis Management teams have robust plans in place that enable them to move quickly following a hurricane or any other natural disaster," said Brian King, SVP of National Engineering Operations at T-Mobile. "We work hard every day to prepare the network so that service is available when customers need it most."

In advance of any hurricane forecasted to make U.S. landfall, T-Mobile establishes an engineering Command Center near the expected area of impact, creating a home base for engineers and rapid response teams. The Network Operation Centers (NOCs) closely manage network traffic during natural disaster events. As is the case every day, the company has redundant NOC back-up support in place if needed.

T-Mobile takes additional steps to prepare the company’s network in case of major weather-related events, and works closely with the recovery efforts of local, state and federal agencies.
