Driving innovative legal strategies to protect and propel T-Mobile’s Un-carrier vision

Mark Nelson serves as T-Mobile’s executive vice president and general counsel, overseeing legal and government affairs and working alongside an exceptional team of attorneys and dedicated professionals. Mark and his team ensure that T-Mobile “Does it the Right Way, Always.” They also advocate for the interests of the company, its Un-carrier mission, and its customers.

Mark joined Team Magenta in October 2021, bringing more than 25 years of legal experience at the law firm Cleary Gottlieb, where he specialized in mergers and antitrust counseling, civil and criminal litigation, and regulatory proceedings before federal and state government agencies. Mark served as a member of the firm’s Executive Committee, as well as the managing partner of the Washington, DC office. His expertise has earned him recognition as one of the nation’s leading antitrust lawyers from publications including ChambersAmerican LawyerBenchmark Litigation, and Legal 500

Mark has been an integral part of the Un-carrier movement for more than two decades. Prior to assuming the general counsel role, he served as an outside adviser, providing essential counsel during pivotal moments including the acquisition of MetroPCS and the historic merger with Sprint in 2020 – the most successful merger in telecommunications history. His significant contributions were acknowledged by The American Lawyer, naming him both "Dealmaker of the Year" and "Litigator of the Week."

Mark holds a Bachelor’s degree from Cornell University and a Juris Doctor from Harvard Law School and is a member of the bar in Washington State, New York, and Washington, DC.

Outside of his professional role, Mark maintains a vegan lifestyle and enjoys running, biking, water sports, traveling with his family, watching baseball games, listening to audiobooks, and sampling the latest craft IPAs. He has also fully embraced the pickleball craze and is often found honing his skills on a court after work.
