Does a lot of things right, and this isn't a criticism of it so much as it is a criticism of Apple and all carriers. I ordered a phone on the 13th, that night. It showed delivery as 10/4-8, which is fine. But what we don't get is information. How is it there are enough phones if ordered at 8 AM but one has to wait 3 weeks if ordered 10 hours later? I would guess that the vast majority of orders on the 13th are around 8 AM and then it trails off.
Some people say Apple does it deliberately to make it look like high demand. I'm not big on conspiracy theories.
The best way to handle this is to identify the phone and its location, including in China. I see some people follow the flights out of China because they have the IMEI number.
