Re: VoIP with t-home internet
Depending on which gateway you have your VoIP will work or not. the Nokia gateway's firewall does not allow traffic through SIP ports (5060 etc.) I don't know the specifics of Magic Jack but if it uses SIP protocol it won't work. The Askey LTE gateway works with VoIP phones. I just went through the pain of upgrading to the nokia 5G and then reverting back for this very reason plus the fact that the speed on the Nokia is totally inconsistent. I have a SIP phone at home with 3 international accounts on it that our close relatives use and we just *have to have them working*. The Nokia has a Tmo firmware on it which provides a very basic (sub-par)router feature.26Visto0likes0ComentariosRe: Home Internet Gateway upgrade for 5G
Your VoIP will just not work with the Nokia. Port 5060 is blocked with no way to fix the issue. Also the wifi cannot be disabled on the Nokia. One can only reduce the radio signal strength and disable the broadcast. So you won't "see" the wifi but it's still there. Blows your mind. As for having them in the same box: I think ultimately it's a bad idea. Alot of radio antennas too close to each other makea lot of noise andgenerate interference. I think they would be better to make a modem only that can be placed in an attic and leave the router wherever the user kept it to service the home. Just think of it: if you have them all in one you will need a placement of the gateway that is BOTH ideal for the cell signal and be central to your home and that "never" happens LOL. All-in-one is good for small apartments and for RVs.17Visto0likes0ComentariosRe: T-Mobile, Please read this! High Speed Gateway Problems!
justintyme2 wrote: I had the original LTE Gateway and it was decent. Upgraded to the High Speed Gateway and even though my speeds and general connectivity are better, there is something seriously wrong with the Home Internet Service. Why are a lot of the settings and features that were in the original Gateway not available on the new 5G Gateway? My biggest issue is the fact that my Google Home Devices do not want to connect or stay connected once they are! I only have a Mini, Insignia speaker, Lenovo clock, Google TV, and one smart bulb. A lot of the time, the devices show connected but don't work. It takes a lot of effort to even get them all connected. I've even tried changing the security to WPA/WPA2 + TKP (SP?) as recommended for older devices that may not see your network. All my devices see the network and even connect but there is a major issue with the Gateway or Home Internet service that won't allow them to connect properly or stay connected. Very disappointed and this is a first for me feeling this way about T-Mobile. I had much better service with the old Gateway and tempted to keep it and return the new one even though I have better speeds and 5G. I might as well use my phone unlimited hotspot or my tablet which I've used as hotspot and never had issues with using my devices with it. Expected way better than this. I understand there are limitations compared to regular wifi service but not this. Basic settings and features are not enabled for some reason, yet they were on the old Gateway. That's my rant. I'll be reaching out to them but felt the need to post here and look for some help or answers. Agreed! I have also updated to the Nokia and only had problems since. The firmware is made by Tmobile and is very poor. The gateway itself is great (see: Nokia FastMile). Tmobile seems in no rush to fix the issues. Biggest problem is the lack of "bridge mode" which would allow the use of a better router. The router function of the gateway does not have port forwarding and many standard ports are closed by the firewall. So you cannot access things like security cameras and the NAS from the internet. Cannot ftp, cannot use VoIP phones. it's a sucky router. Additionally it seems to lose the 5G connection unless it is rebooted often. Some users have had better success by cooling the unit with forced air. But that is not a long term solution. The old LTE gateway worked much better. The speeds were in the 50s but constant. The Nokia gets 150Mbps at 2am and 2 Mbps during the day. No, thank you! I have a "tech ticket" open with low expectations. I will ask to go back to the LTE one.18Visto1like0ComentariosRe: Home Internet - 4G LTE vs 5G

I have a similar situation. My secondary is often not connected. I get speeds in the single digits when that happens. Really sucks. jlillard wrote: And if the secondary signal is using band n71 then it's a 5G signal, right? anything with n in front is 5G if it has b in front it's LTE see www.cellmapper.net36Visto1like0ComentariosRe: Home internet speeds extremely inconsistent and connection drops intermittently
Thank you for the cellmapper website. very useful. I was able to determine to which tower my gateway is connected just by looking at the PCI # and the band. In my case only the secondary signal is a 5G. Most of the time the gateway does not even connect to a secondary signal. My speeds are as high as 150 at 2am but as low as 1-2 Mbps during the day. For those who don't know already if the band starts with n (ex: n71) then it's a 5G connection. if it starts with b its LTE. In my case I mainly get LTE. The Gateway has a miserable firmware and I cannot get the functionality I need. Can't access my security cameras or NAS from internet because of no port forwarding. My VoIP phone does not work because the firewall blocks the SIP ports and there is no way around it. VPN works. Frankly this service is not worth 50$13Visto0likes0ComentariosRe: Home Internet Gateway upgrade for 5G
I did upgrade to the 5G nokia Gateway and I regret it. Look at other posts serach nokia gateway. It has an even more minimalistic interface. The gateway itself is really good (Nokia FastMile) but the firmware done by Tmo is subpar. On the LTE gateway I had more consistent speeds around 50. On the 5G I have 150 at 2am but only 2-8 during daytime. Yes 2! Additionally my VoIP phone has stopped working. The LTE gateway was letting the SIP signal go through but the NOKIA blocks everything. I tested the VoIP phone over a VPN and it works fine which tells me it's a firewall issue. I placed a ticket and if this is not resolved I will go back to the LTE gateway. The speed inconsistency alone is good enough reason to switch back.15Visto0likes0ComentariosRe: Nokia Home Internet Gateway - Issues list
I have the same gateway with same problems. Moreover: My VoIP phone does not work AT ALL. It worked fine with the TMobile LTE gateway. The Nokia seems to have a tougher firewall which does not allow SIP signals through port 5060. This may be the reason for your Wifi calls not working. The Tmobile "wifi calling" uses the SIP protocol. Just like the LTE gateway there is no Port Forwarding which creates a multitude of issues like not being able to access your security cameras, NAS etc. from the internet. Not being able to change the IP of the gateway is the smallest of its problems. Adding a "bridge mode" to these gateways would be the best solution at this point. Their router features are extremely subpar and IDK why Tmobile does this. IMHO they should stick to providing a modem only and let people use their own routers just as the cable ISPs do. Much cheaper device than this all-in-one contraption.29Visto2likes0Comentarios
