Re: High-Speed Internet Gateway will not lock to 5G speeds (5G21)
I think you will find that both N41 and N71 are 5g bands. The b12/b66 you refered to are both 4g bands. T-mobile does not operate on a pure 5g system and requires both a 4g AND 5g connection simultaneously to function. The "primary" you see is 4g and the "secondary" is 5g. The functional difference between n71 and n41 is that the lower frequency band of the one gives a stronger signal at a longer distance.2Visto0likes0ComentariosRe: Band locking
I added a cooling fan to my "Trash Can" and shifted ot to a location right on the window sill. I also removed the aluminum screen from the window, it was blocking signal. I now am able to get a good steady N41 secondary with datacapacities between 150Mbs and 225Mbs. A good source if informaton on 5g internet is "Nater Tater 5g Internet" on youtube.10Visto0likes0ComentariosRe: Band locking
For all you folks that are having connection problems, I think you will find you need BOTH the Primary and secondary signals. The primary is a 4g signal usually and secondary is the 5g signal. Primary typically is band 2 or B66 and secondary is N41 or N71. The 5g N41 is a higher frequency that has a shorter range, and N71 is a lower frequency and therefore a longer range. All you can really do is move the can to various locations to get what works best for you. Bars are not as important as Quality (best at least more positive than -15) ANDNoise Ratio ( as positive as you can get, not zero or minus)8Visto0likes0ComentariosRe: Home Internet - 4G LTE vs 5G
Because frequency, range, and signal strength are so important, and the fact that home internet MUST be consistent, and the distance for home is fixed, T-Moblile MUST provide something in the User Interface to allow us to lock on to the signal that best fits our location and needs.4Visto0likes0ComentariosRe: Home Internet - 4G LTE vs 5G
My experiences seem to indicate that with the n41 band operating on the higher frequency, that unless the cell tower is almost in your backyard and no obstructions, the ability for it to carry much data is lost. As a result you will probably be operating on the 4g band 2 or b66 and not the 5g band. Since n71 is a lower frequency 5g band I get the best results when it is my secondary.5Visto0likes0ComentariosRe: Home Internet - 4G LTE vs 5G
My sentiments exactly! I will say that performance is improving. I don't have to call quite as often and now many times it's only to let them know it happened again. Most times I can get back to the good bands myself by powering off, unplugging and letting it sit for a couple of minutes. The time between failures is increasing. Like you, there's no way on God's green earth I'm going back to Spectrum. I'd rather suffer some than deal with them.3Visto0likes0ComentariosRe: 5G home internet keeps dropping
I've had my 5g home internet for Two months now. When it is running properly, I have download at 120-140 Mbs during wee hours of the morning and 40-50 Mbs during daytime. WHEN IT IS RUNNING PROPERLY! My complaint is performance is consistently inconsistent! Frequently performance drops to less than 1 Mbs. Then mysteriously starts working again. Lots of times this is unnoticed when browsing but since I took advantage of their special offer for Youtube TV, It becomes obvious when the streaming is constantly buffering or providing a fuzzy picture. If T-mobile wants to succeed as an internet provider, they need to provide more consistent reliable service. CONSISTENTLY, INCONSISTENT DOESNT CUT IT!!! Occasionally poor is bad enough.1Ver0likes0ComentariosRe: High-Speed Internet Gateway will not lock to 5G speeds (5G21)
My location to the 2 towers in my area is that I'm at the edge of the frequency range used by band n41. While I always have B66 as my primary signal, when I get n41 as the secondary signal, my download is next to nothing. Speed test usually can't even get connected. As long as I have b71 ( a lower frequency, longer range) as my secondary signal, then downloads are as good as Spectrum. If I could lock onto b71, I would never consider Spectrum again!0Visto0likes0ComentariosRe: Band locking
My situation seems to be the reverse of what is being discussed here. When my device switches to B66 primary n41 secondary, the data rate goes to pot. I can't get 5Mbs. When I am connected B66/n71 I then get download rates from 100 to 150 Mbs. While that is not the speeds some are reporting, it is plenty fast enough for browser activity, downloads, and streaming YouTube TV at the same time without the video buffering. I think my location relative to towers is that the "faster" n41 signal is from towers where the distance is at the edge if the higher frequency range while the n71 signal being a lower frequency is stronger at my distance. While i have access to two different towers, the performance is the same regardless of which tower gets connected. Best rates are still with B66/n71.10Visto0likes0ComentariosRe: Home Internet - 4G LTE vs 5G
My situation is that band 41 signal is not as strong as band 71. Data rate I get on 41 is useless so device reverts to the B66 4g signal. When I can stay on 71 I get 3 bars and between 100 and 150 Mbs. At all other times everything is at 2 bars with data rates ranging from 5 to 25 Mbs. I wish there was some way to lock on to the band 71 signal.11Visto1like0Comentarios
