Can scammers make it look like my number is calling?

I received an incoming phone call that said the number was a verified number.  The gal asked me if someone had tried calling her?  I said no I'm sorry you must have the wrong number.  She said the call came in from this number and her phone identified it as a scam call.  The person said they were from Amazon and then hung up.  So that is why she called it back-my number.  I did not call her so my question is, can scammers use my number when making their calls??  If so, what can I do to stop it?

  • if im remembering right its called spoofing..main reason you’ll see numbers from your own area calling you and they end up being a scammer..they use a computer to generate numbers for certain areas..usually by the area code..
