Keep and Switch offer - are there strings attached ?

Let's say I have a phone under contract with AT&T with a $800 balance.

If I switch over to T-Mobile as part of the "keep and switch" offer, would I get a $800 prepaid card with no strings attached?

Do I have to keep service active with T-Mobile for a particular time duration for the line I am switching over, or anything like that?

  • You have to bring over an eligible make a model device that was on your AT&T account for at least 90 days. When you sign up for T-Mobile, you have to select one of our Magenta, Magenta Plus, Magenta MAX, or Essentials plans. The line that you are adding to T-Mobile has to be brand new and you have to bring your number over from AT&T.

When it comes to the amount of time you have to have the line, the only timeframe I am seeing is that you are not eligible if you cancelled another line on your T-Mobile account within the last 90 days. That is something to consider if you are being added to a friend or family member's account that may have cancelled another line to make room for yours. If you are starting a new account, then it is a non-issue.

You probably need to contact Tmobile support and ask that question or look into the fine print of the promotion.

  • also keep in mind that you will need to pay off that $800 for the phone in order for ATT to unlock it so it can be used on TMO.. whatever the amount is coming back to you from TMO will be after that 90 days.
