Re: After latest update, GS9 keeps defaulting to Cellular Preferred over Wi-Fi calling
Just to let you know that with an android update many months ago this constant switching from wi-fi to cellular stopped and most of the time my android phone stays on wi-fi. Once in a great while I get a "preferences updated" notice and after that happens my phone reverts to cellular preferred. However, this is very rare. This seems to happen only with ONE of the wi-fi systems that I regularly use. I have no idea why. Just had a new android update today and my phone was still on wi-fi preferred after the update. Hope my update is helpful to the community.1Ver0likes0ComentariosRe: WIFI Calling Preferences Being Forced to Cellular Preferred
It seems to me that many are having this identical problem… those of us who depend on wi-fi connectivity because we live in a hi-rise building or in an area with poor cell coverage. These wi-fi connectivity issues began with a system update in mid-2020. If you select "wi-fi preferred" within a short period of time your phone will revert to "cellular preferred". T-mobile has given me different phones and the same thing happens on all of them. Worse yet, I have had multiple instances of an incoming call -- when on a wi-fi system -- going directly to voice mail and my cell phone never rings. I have observed this issue myself by calling my cell phone from a landline phone. I have tried temporarily deleting various apps from my phone -- but the same issue persists. This is not, I think, from my phone, my apps, or the wi-fi network I am on. It seems to be a software issue. Complaints are coming from Android and Apple users which are similar. Should not T-Mobile get this technically resolved? And would it not be honest to send out a blanket announcement to T-Mobile customers that "wi-fi is not working properly and we are working on it" or something like that? It seems to me that it is not fair or honest to advertise a service which is not properly working. Or openly solicit any problems we are having with T-Mobile wi-fi connectivity. I really love T-Mobile availability most places in the world -- buy the wi-fi connectivity is a big issue for me.1Ver1like0ComentariosRe: WiFi Calling not working suddenly
I have been a T-Mobile customer for many years. Wi-fi calling worked perfectly until a software update from T-Mobile around the middle of 2020 -- and it has not worked reliably since then. This same problem exists on many different makes of phones - Apple, Samsung, etc. I too live in an environment with poor cell coverage and have long depended on wi-fi cell phone connection with T-Mobile. Since that "update" my T-Mobile phone refuses to remain in the "wi-fi preferred" setting and constantly reverts to "cellular preferred" sometimes just minutes after I select "wi-fi preferred". Sometimes Wi-Fi works, but I never know if it is working or not. Worse yet, OFTEN wi-fi incoming calls go straight to voice mail and my phone never rings. These problems have been brought to T-Mobile's attention over and over. The same issue occurs on various wi-fi networks. For a long time T-Mobile denied there was a problem. And they have tried blaming the phones, other apps, wi-fi networks, etc. In fact I have tried different phones provided by T-Mobile - but ALWAYS have had the exact same issue - meaning this is a software issue. It really needs some high level technical work. It should be very easy for T-Mobile to explore the problem by setting up a panel of many different phones and observing the issue at a test center. The other answer is to stop advertising wi-fi as a reliable available communication method with their cell phones. Such as advertising "it is sometimes possible to connect on a wi-fi network." But not reliably so. To advertise the service, and have it not work properly for many months, is a dangerous situation for users like me. I use an Android phone but see many on-line complaints from Apple users. To deny that the problem existed, in the past, was irresponsible and dishonest. You can delete cache, and turn anything on and off.. it won't help. Something is deficient in the operating system… a CHANGE from what was working PERFECTLY prior to the abominable update. Every T-Mobile customer who uses or depends upon wi-fi connectivity should be reporting whatever difficulties they are encountering. To me - the wi-fi issue is a much more significant one than 5G availability. Once we start traveling internationally, the unreliability of wi-fi connecting could be a costly one to us, as well.8Visto3likes0ComentariosRe: WIFI Calling Preferences Being Forced to Cellular Preferred
The fact that T-Mobile has not resolved this issue is horrible. But - what is WORSE - is that if any customer WHO calls about this happening on their phone, technical support CLAIMS to know nothing about it. Like the customer calling is the first one to experience this. They sent me to Samsung, and when I told the technician about the issue at Samsung, she started laughing and said T-Mobile should be able to fix the problem... Perhaps T-Mobile higher ups dont't know anything about it, which even reflects even more badly on T-Mobile. How could they not know with all these postings?? How can this company that spends zillions of dollars on advertising for new customers not spent some on IT to correct this problem? Is this wi-fi issue only on the Samsung phones? I have an S9. If not corrected soon, I am moving to another carrier. T-Mobile does not deserve anyone's business with such incredibly obnoxious and stupid technical support and their being unresponsive to a legitimate issue which troubles many of us for the very same reason. I have read all the messages back and forth -- WHY HAS THIS NOT BEEN FIXED?????7Visto5likes0ComentariosRe: After latest update, GS9 keeps defaulting to Cellular Preferred over Wi-Fi calling
Since last Android update my Galaxy S9 is driving me nuts. Tells me via notification with a beep that wi-fi is optimized every 10 minutes and phone refuses to retain wi-fi preferred setting. I live in a high rise where wi-fi works but I'm up high and cell service competes so calls are dropped and have a vacation home with practically no cell coverage so wi-fi is vital. I'm about ready to give up on T-Mobile. Wi-fi service is a great feature but it stopped working and when you call technical support they have never heard of the problem. There are some screws loose in this system. All these messages about the same or similar issues and technical support knows nothing? Why have this idea exchange?? A high up technical support person told me it was other applications on my phone causing the problem. Samsung says its T-Mobile's fault. T-Mobile says its Samsung's fault. I am exploring other carriers as I write this. I just cannot understand why this problem cannot be fixed NOW. All the advertising to recruit new customers and T-Mobile will be losing old ones. Wi-fi use with the cell phone is very useful -- but not having it so screwed up. Should they not admit that there is a BIG problem and get it FIXED. This company seems totally and completely unresponsive and irrational.1Ver0likes0Comentarios
