Is anyone else having problems with a changing IP address?
I've had the Home Internet service for 3 months now and I'm generally happy with it, but one thing is rather annoying. The external IP address that gets assigned to my gateway keeps changing. This has two side effects. Web sites forCCs,banks, etc remember the IP address that you last used to connect and if it changes, they will require additional verification. The other problem is with streaming TV services. The local broadcasts that I'm allowed to watch will depend on where they think that I'm located. My estimated location usually depends on my IP address and in the last month this has changed 4 times! My IP address location has changed from Kansas to Oklahoma, to Texas and today it thinks I'm on Ohio!15KViews10likes53ComentariosRe: VoIP with t-home internet
@bcbobDo you not have a cell phone? Why bother with a home phone if you do? If you don't have a cell phone, you could put the SIM for your VOLTE into a cheap unlocked cell phone and be able to use it in locations besides home. I hadMagic Jack in the past and then I switched toObiHai Adapter With Google Voice to avoid the monthly charge. I eventually just used Google Voice on my PC using a speakerphone USB device and that is what I found to be the most flexible way to go. @jlillardThe secondary signal can also end up being 4G depending on the tower and the signal strength. If you end up with a 4G secondary signal, your top speed will be much lower. Your secondary band indicates the frequency used by your connection and that in turn determines your maximum speed. Your actual speed will also be affected by the signal strength, the other users connected to the same tower, and the tower's backhaul speed (how fast it can send and receive data onthe rest of the network).13Visto3likes0ComentariosRe: Home Internet - 4G LTE vs 5G
@jlillard Yes, a good secondary signal will get better speeds. If a slow secondary band has a strong signal, it can dominate the cell setup and keep you from connecting on a higher frequency band with better throughput. This is why 5 GHz wifi provides faster speeds than 2.4 GHz as long as the5 GHz signal is strong enough to avoid packet loss.14Visto1like0ComentariosRe: VoIP with t-home internet
As I understand it, the main problem is that the gateway doesn't currently support port passthrough where a custom port on the WAN side can be routed to a device on the LAN side. A few have reported using a VPN to get around this, but I don't know how that would be configured for Magic Jack requirements.7Visto0likes0ComentariosRe: how to reduce ping / latency with 5g home internet
You'll probably get the least lag if you connect your gaming PC via an ethernet cable instead of wifi. Also, if you have several wifi devices, connecting them to a router instead of directly to the gateway will reduce device contention as the gateway doesn't implement prioritization of service.30Visto1like0Comentarios
