T-Mobile DIGITS and iMessage Interoperability

Greetings.  I've looked at multiple posts on this topic in this forum and other online sources.  However, they vary significantly in terms of problems and potential solutions.  After reviewing them, I just wondered, is the bottom line that display (processing, receiving, transmitting) of text messages from a DIGITS equipped device to an IOS device just doesn't work or works sporadically? Is this a fundamental interoperability issue, or has anyone has solved the problem or found a work around?

My primary phone is an iPhone 12.  The DIGITS equipped device that I sometimes use is a Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra 5G.  Messages sent from an IOS device do not display on the Samsung.  They display fine on the iPhone.
