cannot activate esim on google pixel 6 pro

longtime verizon customer, wanting to try t-mobile to confirm coverage is good on my island. opened t-mobile account and all three apple devices in the house are happy to download their esims. but the pixel wants a QR code from verizon. 

have lodged my question with tech support on both sides of the aisle. so far no response.
