Is international Oppo Reno 12 compatible with mobile carriers in USA?

I'm bringing my Oppo Reno 12 5G global phone to US and am wondering whether it works well or has any issues? All answers will be very much appreciated.

T-Mobike USA and all other US carriers require the device to be VoLTE compatible with their network to make and receive calls.  Most Asian market devices are not VoLTE compatible with US networks because there is no official standard for VoLTE.  The few common variations are not compatible with each other and a lot of Asian market devices tend to fall back to 3G for calling.

Even though the device has a few compatible 4G bands and a couple of compatible 5G bands.  Those bands are not deployed everywhere.  Most important though is, no compatible VoLTE or VoNR, it will not be able to make and receive calls on any US carrier.

      Thanks for the reply!

      • Does that mean I will still be able to get the SIM card but won't be able to use it fully if VoLTE incompatible or maybe different VoLTE standard?
      • Falling back to 4G/3G, will I still be able to use mobile data?
      • For further information, I will be going California area and I see T-Mobile 5G bands are available there. If mine is VoLTE compatible and with the correct standard, I'll be able to use the SIM card without any problem. Is my statement correct?
      • Is it that they (mobile carrier companies) restrict buyers from buying SIM cards for 'unregistered' phone brands (such as Oppo, Vivo, ...) ?

Now, I have understood more on the matter. Again, thank you so much!!

You can still buy the SIM.  If your device is not VoLTE or VoNR compatible.  The network will not allow you to activate the SIM in that device.  The US shut down 3G networks and 4G requires VoLTE.  California has fairly solid coverage.  T-Mobile does not block any device manufacture.  This is not Australia making a push to sell more carrier phones and lock out cheaper Asian imports.  Many Asian devices work fine on T-Mobile's network. It simply checks to see if the device is VoLTE compatible before SIM registration.
