Android Samsung A54 5G text question

I created a text group conversation, with four people.  I want to remove one of the people off the list so they no longer receive any of my group texts.  I found my chat group, clicked on the arrow at the top left of my screen and the group appears with the 4 people listed.  I scroll down to the person I want to delete and hit the three vertical dots to the right of it that says "edit contact."  That opens another screen and I scroll down to the RH side where the "More" entry is located and click on that.  I hit the "Delete" button and the name of the person I want to remove is now deleted, but not their telephone number.  So, what shows up in the group chat is just their TN without their name, but I think it's still an active member of the group, so I don't feel comfortable posting anything.  This doesn't seem right but I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong.  Gracias
