Can't send SMS (but can receive)

I can't send SMS.  I have received SMS from 4 different sources today, no issue.  Last known successful outgoing text was on Saturday (for later readers: it's Monday today.)   This morning I get "Trouble sending". Attempting to resend, same result.   I've tried sending to multiple recipients.  (1 on T-mo, 1 on Mint, 1 unknown, and the T-mo help SMS line itself)

I have rebooted several times.  (I feel like I have a similar issue every couple of months and rebooting always has resolved it previously.)  I'm using the default google/android messaging app.  I installed a alternate messaging app to test and got the same result.

Handset is a Bold N2 which I've had for ~8 months with no issues (other than the charging port being finicky.)  It autoconfigured from T-mo when new.  APN and such seem to be correct, but I am not sure exactly what settings might be relevant.  Selected is T-Mobile US LTE (fast.t-mobile.com), and it's the only APN configured on the phone right now (or ever, as far as I know.)

Internet is working fine with WiFi off (or on.)   I'm getting 4 bars on 5G with 20-30mbs on a speed test, which is pretty normal for this location.  Outgoing phone calls do work.

Account is up to date.  On autopay and not due again until Sept.   442 messages so far this billing cycle with 6 days left, which I think is pretty low these days.

  • Well, shutting down the phone and leaving it off for 5-10 minutes seems to have fixed this issue.

  • I recently switched my line from AT&T Prepaid to T-Mobile prepaid. I discovered today that for at least the past two weeks my phone has not been sending text messages, although they appear to have been sent successfully. I've also haven't been receiving all my calls and voicemails left for me. Upon contacting T-Mobile support via online chat, I was met with a refusal of the first representative to help resolve the issue and automatically assumed the problem was my device. He kept insisting that I go to a t-mobile store even though I let the rep know I just tried and failed to send a text from a different device using my SIM and it also showed as successfully sent but was never received by the other party. I was going to switch back to my previous carrier today to avoid any more of these issues with t-mobile but they charged my card a day earlier than they were supposed to!
