external antenna
does anyone ever have or used an external antenna for area with real low or no signal and does T-Mobile has them?

If you have home internet you can ask T-Mobile for a "CELL SPOT". It works well in the home and surrounding area. A true, 3rd party, signal booster is expensive and requires some background. I kluged a car booster for my home until i got the cell spot.
If you have T-Mobile home internet they will tell you its not compatable with the cell spot. I have not found that to be true.
If you are asking about an antenna to boost your T-Mobile Gateway, save your money. No improvement.
if you have home net there is a booster that can be added to it but you’ll have to contact TMO to see if you qualify or not..with that being said though most newer phones have wifi/wifi calling but again that would depend on if you have home net or not.
