Guantanamo Bay Service

Hola,

One of my friends has a line on may account and has been in Italy for the last 18 or so months.

She has now relocated back to Gitmo Naval base, and is having to continuously restart the phone to try and get service every morning after leaving her house and Wi-Fi.

Her service was fine for the few days she was in Florida before arriving to Gitmo.

Is there something she can try in the settings to help with this issue.

Also she had a few roaming text charges but it was sporadic like it connected to a tower outside of base or something.

She has a Galaxy S10e, any suggestions would be appreciated.

Gracias

Jason

  • most of the time youre roaming cant be more than half your monthly cycle..im wondering if that might have anything to do with it or not. @syaoran  anything else you can think of? i would have thought in the 18 month period they would have had numerous issues popping up each month.

Roaming is not the same for everyone.  If you use WiFi Calling most of the time.  Roaming flags will not pop up on the account.  For those in the military, roaming usage differs from that of normal customers.  Guantanamo Bay though, is one of those places where you are lucky if roaming works at all.  Cuba is a communist country and that alone can make roaming difficult.

It might be worth reaching out to T-Force by sending a DM to T-Mobile on Facebook or Twitter to have them look into things further.

Restarting phones regularly is important to keep them running well. Having to do it every day can be a bit much and out of necessity to get service is annoying.

Guantanamo Bay does have T-Mobile service. A few things she can do in settings are

    1. Making sure the Wi-Fi calling preference is set to Celular preferidoTurn on/off Wi-Fi calling Galaxy S10e T-Mobile Support
    2. Make sure the Network Mode is set to Auto and she can do a network selection to ensure T-Mobile is selected.
    3. Remove any device manager or battery saver apps.
    4. Update the phone to the most recent software update.

    Hope this helps.

  • There may be some issue sorting between T-Mobile's signal and the Cuban signal from outside the base. Can she manually select T-Mobile? This would also prevent Cuban roaming charges.
