Where can i find status updates on cell tower construction and modernization projects for zip code 28139?
I badly need to upgrade my internet. T-Mobile's 5G internet would be perfect but there isn't a tower in range of my house.
Did you enter your address in "Check availability" on t-mobile.com? You might be surprised. If it isn't available, then I don't know how you could find out when it will be.

In theory, if its < 3 months, the Advanced Technical Support team can see updates.
Beyond that … its all 'guess'. I.e. I've been told many times over many years by T-Mobile that they are building/have built a 'new tower' in a certain location - only to find out that they never have, or its ~100 miles away.
If its a physical tower build/update, check with your local city / county. They will have records for tower builds and physical upgrades.
