The most popular solution seems to be buying your own wifi router and bypass the built in router on the TMO gateway. I have not seen anyone who did this saying this doesn't work. The other benefit to this route is if you ever change internet service providers, you can connect the respective device to your router while keeping all your wifi SSID and passphrase unchanged. Many cable internet customers end up buying their own routers.

Personally, I haven’t had any issues on either Nokia or Arcadyan gateways with my Chamberlain openers but that was only short term testing as I have recently added mesh wifi system for my home to get better coverage throughout the house.
