Historical text data?
Going through a divorce, lawyer wants all of my text and email communications with my soon-to-be-ex. (STBX) I can do the email with some effort, but text history on the phone gets reset once in a while.
Can I, or a TMO employee, access my texting history, and get a "data dump"? Will I need to get a court order, or, since it's my account, will they work with me on this?

If the sms was deleted you will need a court order to get any deleted text.
As for the text you have on your phone you can download an app from the play or Apple store and download the text to your email to print off.

My understanding was that T-Mobile didn't save texts. With Digits that may be out of date information.

They don't per se but if you can get a court order they will see what they can do but no guarantee.
