Hi! So that you are aware, Sprint nunca offered phone financing options. No matter which way a representative could have told you that you were going to own your phone, you were never really financing it because they only had lease options which means that you are renting your phone. The type of leases that sprint had are called forever leases, which means that if the customer never gave back their rented phone or paid off the residual balance to own it, that they would literally continue to charge you to just rent it forever even if your lease, which would have been 18 months long, ended did four years ago. If your account is still on the Sprint biller, then you may want to double check that this is not the case.

If you have been officially migrated to the T-mobile biller, then you are able to cancel service whenever you would like. Your phones will be your responsibility to finish paying off, once an account is canceled you have about 90 days to pay the remaining bill and equipment charges before it goes to collections. Being able to set a payment plan after a cancellation is dependent on tenure and bill payment history. Also, please note if you have any phone promotions for a free or discounted device that that promotion voids the moment the account or line is canceled, and you will be responsible for any remaining balances. There are other carriers that offer to pay off your device for you via rebate. 
 

T-Mobile phones are not eligible to be unlocked and used at any other carrier unless they are fully paid off and owned. Once paid off, it takes a full 72 hours to unlock your device after you have requested for it to be unlocked.
