"No SIM card" error on Pixel 5a

My Pixel 5a stopped being able to read the sim card. Tech support sent me a new one and it worked for a week or so and then stopped. I've tried changing the settings using *#*#4636#*#* based on some posts I've seen but I don't really know what I'm doing. Tech support provided an esim but that didn't work either. They want me to factory reset but that's off the table because I can't lose the data in my texts (and I have never seen a reliable way to backup/restore SMS/MMS for Android). Any thoughts? Super appreciate any help!

  • I used to use sms back up and restore. It's available in the Play store.

I've never had any issues with backing up and restoring text when I upgrade my Pixel's. There's also apps that will back up sms/mms to your Gmail account.

Hey Gramps, could you recommend an app or two that you have used to successfully backup/restore? If Android has a native function, I've completely missed it. ¡Gracias!
