43151.0107 MB used on a working Monday at home

Hola,

I received an alert that I was nearing my 50 GB of data for the month. This isn't a frequent alert for me so I logged int to see what had happened. I work from home with wifi Mon-Fri and the data record on my account shows:

10/30/23 02:30 PM 43151.0107 MB Internet Access

This amount seems crazy high and I can't recall doing anything special as I do most of my work from my laptop on wifi, not on my phone. Is there a way to see where that data usage came from?

What is your laptop's operating system? WIndows 11 has some built-in data usage reporting not sure about Apple.

  • Windows 11 Pro / Build 22621

I don’t think my laptop is using the data, or at least it hasn’t in the past.

To clarify, this is related to my Tmobile cell phone plan data. I have internet with AT&T.

  • and youre not using it as a hotspot correct? the phone..

when does your billing cycle actually reset? you might still have a few days and are at the very end of the billing cycle before it resets?

  • Gracias.

I’m not using the hotspot intentionally, but I suppose it’s within the realm of possibility, although unlikely as I actually had a power outage yesterday take out the internet and my laptop was not connecting to the hotspot.

My billing dates are the 15th of every month.

  • im almost positive the hotspot would show up under a different usage anyways..shoot..unless you have had a ungodly amount of app updates and such im not fully sure..im considered a moderately heavy user and have been known to hit 50 here and there but thats with daily Netflix while on lunch etc type usage..5 days a week type for half a hour each day ish.

  • Thank you. I was able to turn off the data usage of some apps, but none added up to that crazy amount of data that got used.

I'd still look into WIndows 11 in the event it was using hotpot data even if unintentional. One quirk it's data usage reporting has is that it only shows data usage for the currently active network adapter and connection. I'd connect to the T-Mobile hotspot (or gateway whichever your using) and then check the data usage by apps - each WiFI connection is reported separately
