Mobile Data vs Hotspot Data discrepancy

My billing cycle w/ T-Mobile runs from the 1st of each month until the end. My plan includes "Unlimited" 5G data and also 120GB of hotspot data.

Two days ago, I got a text from T-Mobile saying that my phone data is almost at 50GB of data usage and that I will notice reduced speeds until my cycle resets (which would be on the 1st of March).

The thing is I have not used 50GB of data on my phone (IPhone) and I can prove it. I have exact information from my phone that shows I have used just under 20GB of data on my phone itself. I'm on WIFI at home and don't use much data intensive apps on my phone outside of the house. I do however hotspot quite and bit and have over 30GB of hotspot data that I have used so far (laptop connected to phone for hotspot tethering).

Why is T-Mobile counting my hotspot data and adding it to my regular data usage? I did not use 50+ GB of data on my phone and I have proof of this.

I understand hotspot data to be separate from phone data. Have I been wrong this entire time or am I being incorrectly tracked by T-Mobile?

I'm having the same thing happening on my S24. I haven't turned on mobile hot spot in at least a year but  I use an adblocker that works as a VPN, when I turn it on my data speed is reduced and I turn it back on I get full speed data.
