2.4g devices not connecting to T-Mobile Home Network
Recently I set-up a T-Mobile 5G Home Internet and am discovering that not all my devices can connect. My Shark IQ Robot vacuum is one device that will not connect to 5G, it says it can only connect to 2.4G. Does anyone have an idea how I can get this to work?
Yall are making this WAY harder than it has to be.
1. Open the T-mobile Internet app
2. Go to the Network tab at the bottom
3. Click on the "+" sign to add a network
4. Add in the information for a 2nd network and change the frequency band to 2.4 GHz.
Done. Easy. Now you have 2 networks and 1 is 2.4 only. I had to figure this out myself as this thread was trash.

The modern version of this, on T-Life: Home > Home Internet > Add Network > Change frequency band to 2.4 GHz.

thank you for posting- saved me another call to tech support and probably returning this gateway because anything that doesn’t support 2.4 out of the box is sure to frustrate anyone with smart home devices! @t-mobile, Why isn’t this in the set-up guide sent out with the hardware?

FYI : If anyone it trying to get their SONOS speakers to work with T-Mobil 5G.
Sonos technicians are now saying the T-M 5G internet routers are not compatible with their speakers.

Thank you so much Katiejo123! Your advice was exactly spot on. My Samsung fridge could not find my T-mobile Gateway network (5G/2.4ghz, automatic) after many tries, so I did what you said: I added a designated 2.4ghz network to my system (which does not cost anything to those who might wonder) and specifically chose WPA2. It also was helpful to reset the Samsung fridge wifi too. Finally I ran the entire process on the Smart Things app and my new 2.4ghz network was recognized and appeared as a network choice, and I made sure to use WPA2 (not combined WPA2/WPA3) and it finally connected! Thanks for your solid advice!

I have done what is suggested but how do you add the devices to the specific network?

I just wanted to echo what @Feahp00 said - choosing 2.4Ghz alone may not be enough to connect to older devices. I also needed to choose WPA/WPA2 for the password settings in order to connect the devices to the new 2.4Ghz network.
I am so grateful to you and @Katiejo123 ! I have been so annoyed with this for months. I was looking to buy a new vacuum because it seemed stupid to have one that I can't control with my app or Alexa as intended! Thank you!!!

I always recommend leaving the default network alone and using it when possible. (You can change the SSID and password.) The default network automatically selects either 2.4 or 5 GHz for the connected devices, and uses the highest current level of security WPA2/WPA3.
Some devices, particularly older ones, work best on a dedicated 2.4 GHz network with WPA/WPA2 security. Because the security is not as good as possible, this should only be used for devices which just won't connect to the default network.
You could have a dedicated 5 GHz network for some devices, though in my opinion it isn’t necessary.
Re. Sonos -- I was able to get my Sonos speakers to connect to the default network. It was stubborn but I can't remember exactly what I did. I recall searching Sonos support and forums but not finding much help. I do think it was just persistence. My speakers are probably older than yours - they are Play:1 and Play:3. It is easier if you can temporarily move the speakers to be closer to the gateway. If you changed the band or security on the default network, I suggest resetting the gateway to restore the original configuration. Add a second 2.4 GHz network for devices that won't connect.

Thanks for this thread, annoying as it is!
I have been trying to get my Sonos One speaker set up for weeks, nay months. Another two hours on support today…. Got it all set up, but my new 2.4 network appears to be hidden, even though I never checked the box. I even changed it to WPA and WPA2 only (at separate times) which may be an issue for some of you out there. Still no luck for me though. The TMobile app says it's not hidden but Apple won't let me unhindered it?Ideas?
Also, a tip for others if possible change your set up device if possible. I got further along with my iPad than I did with my iPhone…..
Thanks and good luck out there on the Ethernet!

PIece of CRAP should automatically have both 5GHz and 2.4GHz turned on. This is just BAD DESIGN AND EXECUTION!🤬

I am trying to setup a 2.4ghz for some of my devices but even after doing everything mentioned above concerning the FAST5688w
i can not create a separate network. I enter all the info and it will not let me add or save. Can someone please help. I live in a box type house and any device will be away from the gateway
