T-Mobile 5G Gateway device
Hola,
I just received today the 5G Gateway from T-Mobile.
Going through the setup screen in front of the device, a strange message appeared saying that my Chime account had been updated to phone number 619-974-4254 (which I do not have on my account). And asked me to contact 844-244-6363 if I did NOT request this change. Which I didn't. I don't have a Chime account. I did not even know what Chime was!
So, I called the 844 number, and it had nothing to do with T-Mobile. After searching online, it appears to be a bank.
Then I called T-Mobile, their personnel, even 5G Gateway specialists, did not know what his was about. which is worrying. I unplugged the device, and I am returning it.
Next, I will be checking my credit report. I just hope T-Mobile did not open a Chime account on my behalf when I signed up for this device.
The gateway's phone number probably used to belong to someone with a chime account. I think you can safely ignore it. You might get other messages intended for the former number holder.

This makes perfect sense, I did see a phone number for this device on my account. Thanks! I will plug it back and send a text message to it.
So this is nothing more than a very powerful hotspot! similar to my current phone, but with extra cookie.
I had my doubts that this will work, I explained to the sales rep, and even to technicians over the phone that I have a T-Mobile Cell Spot inside my home, plugged in to my current Internet Provider. Without the home cell spot I get no T-Mobile signal. But they insist that my address is whitelisted for this service.
I doubt that the 5G Gateway will get signal. But maybe there is something I don't know regarding the base station.
