5g home internet - phone not autoconnecting..
Hi all, I just got 5g home internet yesterday. I notice that when leaving home and coming back, my phone does not auto connect to the network. Yes, my phone is configured to auto connect to it, and on my previous internet (AT&T) it auto connected fine when I returned home.
To connect my phone to the internet when I get home, I have to go to my phone wifi, then click on the network (the password is already saved). It then connects.
Are there any tips or things to check out so that my phone (its a Pixel 3a with Android) will automatically re-connect to this 5g gateway?

I found a workaround, which was to use a wifi range extender I had around. I use the range extender to connect to the Tmobile gateway, then connect my phone to the network provided by the range extender. I can now turn my phone wifi on and off and it'll automatically reconnect to the range extender network. Which so far has remained connected to the gateway. I'm using a TP link RE200. On my phone, the download speed is half what it is on my desktop which is connected (wirelessly) directly to the Tmobile gateway. Since I don't do a lot of heavy activity with my phone I think this should be OK.

Is it possible your phone is looking for the old network? Is there a setting to "Forget This Network" (the AT&T home internet)?

Thanks for the reply. I have already done the "forget this network" on the old network, and there's no longer a saved password for it, so it's not connecting to that.
I did see this issue posted in the forum about a year ago that other people were noticing the same problem, but there was no solution posted. Hoping someone else has had the problem more recently and has found a resolution.

Try rebooting the gateway and your phone.

That didn't do it. I called Tmobile tech support and he hadn't heard of this. We tried creating a new network in the gateway at 2.4g, and it does the same thing.
If I turn my phone wifi off then back on, it doesn't auto-connect to this gateway. And actually it has disconnected itself several times today. It's one floor above me, right above me, and the wifi signal is full strength.
I don't know what else to try, neither did tech support. My laptop is connected to it without issues when I turn the wifi off and on again.

I'm glad you got it working. You might not want to use Wi-Fi calling.

May I ask why you say that? Would that apply to Teams/Zoom calls with my phone as well (via the extender being connected to my phone)?

I was thinking of regular phone calls, because your Wi-Fi connection hasn't been continuous so far. If you get a good T-Mobile cellular signal in your home, use that. This isn't the same as turning off the Wi-Fi.
For Teams/Zoom I would use Wi-Fi, but of course your Wi-Fi could disconnect. I hope not. I hope you have a good experience with TMHI. It took me 3-4 days to get all my devices connected. Since then, it's been solid.

I recently switched to T-Mobile Home Internet, and neither mine (Pixel 4) or my daughter's (iPhone XS) automatically connect, upon returning home or restarting our phones. It's really not a major issue, until I forget to reconnect it, and use 2gigs of mobile data, when I only get 5 gigs of mobile data, per month to begin with. I'll try the wifi extender, that's a good idea.

I have the same problem. I also used a range extender to auto connects when I arrive home. The extender acts like a router.
