Making Arlington firefighters safer.

The Arlington County Fire Department first brought in FLORIAN for its firefighter localization project to track firefighters who were positioned outside their vehicles.

Before FLORIAN, the Arlington County Fire Department relied on verbal Personnel Accountability Reports (PAR) every 10 minutes to relay information and track their firefighters in the field. Now that location and status updates are automatically provided in real time, the department can quickly make better-informed decisions and reduce radio voice traffic.

Today, teams don't have to rely on first-responder voice descriptions, which can be hard to relay in stressful situations. FLORIAN keeps command informed moment by moment with accurate location pins and live, on-scene video streams from firefighters using wearable cameras.

"This technology is a game-changer for both accountability and operations," said Waterfall. "It can completely transform how fire departments track personnel locations and conduct rescue operations during emergencies. When there's a situation where firefighters and officers need assistance, incident commanders can pinpoint their locations in seconds. The Arlington Fire Department has big plans for FLORIAN in 2025, and is preparing to test and pilot the first responder localization solution with regular emergency options in the coming year.
