This is helpful, thanks! Any idea how to find a direct dial alternative to a 1-800 number if that is the only one provided?
When this question came up before I tried finding the old list of toll-to-toll-free cross-overs and couldn't locate anything on the Internet. It's like it never existed. To the point that I wonder if I just imagined the whole thing. (We're talking 40 years ago.)
One thing I'd try is to enter the number as +1800XXXXXXX and try calling when using WiFi Calling, as this originates the call from the USA. The first question I'd ask when they answer is if there is a regular number you can use to call them.
The "+" is made by holding the "0" key for about 1 second. Calling toll-free (e.g. 800, 888, 877, etc) numbers can be tricky because not all toll-free numbers are available from everywhere. Many years ago there were specific companion area codes set aside to call toll-free numbers as toll calls but I don't know if they still exist or what happened to them.
