Out of the country for a year. Can I suspend my service for more than 365 days?

I will be taking a one year sabbatical and I am wondering if I can suspend my service for more than 90 days. I am full aware the 90 days temporary suspension service, but since I will be traveling for more than 90 days, I am wondering what are my options.

Also, if my phone line is temporary suspended, will WiFi calling and texting still be available? I am currently on the T-Mobile Essentials plan, and is paying $80 per month. Would like to reduce the billing to the minimum while I am traveling.

Sincerely, a 10+ years T-Mobile customer,

When a line is suspended, it's exactly that, out of service, No WiFi Calling, no texts. I would suggest you port your number to Google Voice and leave it there for the duration of your sabbatical.  You will be able to send and receive texts for free and receive calls and place them to the US for free and have voicemail on your old number for the time you're gone. Google charges something like $20-$25 to port a number into their system.

I'm trying to do this (port T-Mobile # to Google Voice), it says my number is not eligible.  ¿Y ahora?

  • Thanks all. I guess I will just keep my service active while eating the cost since that seems the only viable way to making sure I will still be able to receive call and messages.
