My Samsung A51 cannot update system software

For over nine months, my A51 only gives me an error message when I try to update system software, including the security update. 

I did a troubleshooting session with support and was only able to do a minor update. Since then, I've attempted further updates, still with no success. 

  • interesting. are you still running the Sprint sim card or did you upgrade to the TMO one? the fact that it was a Sprint phone previously might have been the hang up..since it was a different company yet same one now..

  • If I remember correctly, we got my wife’s A51 5G directly from T-Mobile (Sprint at the time?).   It is listed as “complete” on the Android 13 page linked above.

    Last night I tried using Samsung Smart Switch to upgrade it - besides it taking a long time to recognize there was an update for it, once it started it took hours to download (presumably to my Windows notebook) and never made it to the phone.

  • same question to you. purchased from TMO or direct from Samsung or some other method? if its direct from Samsung or it was purchased carrier unlocked you might be able to jump over to the Samsung forums and download it from their site.

     

    if its a TMO variant i dont believe that’ll work.

  • interesting. was it purchased from TMO or was it brought in as a BYOD (Bring Your Own Device) from another carrier or fully carrier unlocked?

  • My wife's phone is still on Android 12.  I can't get it to update to anything newer.  (I did make sure all the apps are updated, reset again, try to update - no joy...)

     

  • yall received Android 13 though correct? i see that yall received it but it doesnt show as of what date..so not sure if that was the last update yall received or if it was a security patch

  • My wife's A51 is having the same problem.  Won't update since May 2022 and gives the same "unknown error" message.

    (what do you mean “unknown”??  you detected an error - give some clue as to what it is!!)

    (longtime systems software developer here...)

  • i am having this exact same issue my device has not updated since May 2022. I get and error message that states "an unknown error has occured" My device was originally with sprint, but has since been updated with a t-moble SIM card.

  • purchased from TMO? brought in as a BYOD (Bring Your Own Device) from another carrier or direct form the OEM?
