iPhone typing/clicking on its own

For about a month now, my iPhone has been recording taps without my touching the phone.  In some instances it opens windows or clicks Return/L/M. It seems as thought a section of the screen toward the bottom is firing "clicks", but I'm not doing it. 

I’ve updated to the latest OS and I’ve removed any protectors as the chance that the protector was causing the problem.

The screen is not damaged and it clean.

Any ideas what to try to correct it?
