Disconnects with new 5G home internet gateway
Got the black rectangular 5G box last week. Tried all sorts of locations, but the best reception seems to be in front of a north-facing second-story window, where I get 2 to 3 bars and as high as ~70 mbs d/l.
But it's very variable, with it occasionally dropping as low as ~16 mbs. And, it drops out overnight and doesn't reconnect automatically ("no signal" when I check it, but after power cycle, it connects fine).
FWIW, we're in the suburbs of a sizable (~2.5M) metro area, about 10 miles from a city center and maybe 2 mi east of a pair of ~1000 ft TV towers that also host cell antennas. The TM coverage map shows us in "extended coverage", but the highest speed coverage is shown to extend as far as a block to our west (although west-facing second-story window placements get only 2 bars and slower speedtest.net results). Very confusing.
We got better, more reliable TM service than this with the silver Nokia cylinder on the first floor ~9 mo ago, but because of an ipv4/ipv6 incompatibility with a site my wife’s business used then, we had to go with Comcast, which is much more expensive.
She doesn’t use that site now, so we thought we’d try TM again, and this time they sent us the black box.
Could it be the box?

Could be. The Arcadyan has smaller antennas, so could be less sensitive.
The following link suggests using the T-Mobile Home Internet app to find the best location for the gateway:

FWIW, I did what your link suggested, and it came up as:
”Sorry that didn’t…
We can’t provide signal direction in all locations just yet, but we’re working on it”
🙁
I reaally want this to work. I really don’t like XFinity.

An update: it seems to have settled down somewhat at the North-facing window (which is the opposite direction of most of the local towers, but whatever.)
Not a speed demon, but getting 3 bars of reception and 20 to 40 mbs d/l, which is enough for us. Oddly enough, it gets u/l speeds approaching 20 mbs. More importantly, it seems to maintain a connection now.
Still have the XFinity box, but we’re slowly switching devices over.

I have had the Arcadyan for 5 days (today is 6/19) At my best, I get 2 bars with speed of 100/15. It has disconnected once during the day. I have noticed it will stay connected as long as a device is being used (PC, TV) Once I shut down for the night, it seems to disconnect as I have to unplug/replug every morning. But again, it works as long as I am actively using it. I usually have 100/20 speed but when I walk away for a few hours, it will disconnect. It's so frustrating. It does not get warm/hot as others have mentioned previously. I am on a 15 day trial and am torn if I want to deal with this going forward as it seems there is not a fix for it.

Same here. 3 days in a row I've had to power cycle the black box due to it saying no signal. Pretty pissed off and I've only had this for a week. Signal strength is also 2bars and i get 80mb to 115mb down which is great or me. Absolutely a nightmare to have to power cycle this thing constantly.
I need rock solid internet for when I'm out of town for months and have my cameras and remote access to my server. What can be done?
