How can I tell if a cell tower is broadcasting 5G?

Unfortunately if there is no connection on the secondary connection, then no, you don't have 5G and your performance is the same as any LTE hotspot. Before you contact TMO support try repositioning the gateway for the best signal. here is a good video on how:
