I received a message letting me know my phone was now unlocked and I didn't have to do any.

Network unlock only matters if you plan to use your phone on another carrier. It can still be unlocked as long as it's paid off.

Unlocking it also makes it more valuable if you want to sell it. Which is allways gonna net you way more cash then trading it in to t-mobile...

The phone I'm currently using was unlocked by Tmobile after 40 days of usage. I never requested the code just received a text letting me know it's unlocked.
