What you should have asked for, is a signal booster. It's always been odd that T-Mobile refers to both devices as cellspots. If your signal is week or non-existent at your location though. A booster will not help.

There are two types of CellSpots. One amplifies signal that is already there. If you have very weak or no signal, this will not help at all. The other one plugs into your internet to create an area of cellular coverage of about 1,000 square feet under ideal conditions. If your device supports WiFi Calling, I would recommend using that instead.
Do not buy a CellSpot off of EBay or anywhere else. T-Mobile does not sell these! They are issued to customers to use while they need them and then must be returned to T-Mobile.
