Mexico-T-Mobile Mobile Data issue on S22 Ultra e-Sim
- Hace 2 años
Hello Everyone; I came again to Mexico on 15th May 2023 and thought to give it another Chance on Tmobile USA e-SIM in Mexico.
Removed my $15 International Calling Plan and Added $5 Mexico Plan Online, Message Came, and I first put the Phone in Airplane Mode and Restart the Mobile. After Restart, I turn off the Airplane Mode and enable the data with Data Roaming On and 😀WHOA😍..... I can see the LTE+ Option in the Network data. it's 4G Speed(32.8 Mbps download and 1.38 Mbps Upload), Checked in Speed test.
I came to Mexico again on 30th July 2023. it was already recharged with a $5 Mexico Data Plan. 8 Days, it worked with 5G Data, and last 2 Days it Stopped. I called T Mobile Pre-paid Customer Care and they checked everything and asked me to Select the Telcel Network Manually and It started working again.

I visited Mexico City from November 10th to 15th, 2024, and encountered another issue with my T-Mobile service.
At home in the U.S., I have a $40 prepaid plan with 10GB of data, of which I had already used 7.5GB before my trip. To prepare for international roaming, I added the $5 plan, which gives me 5GB of roaming data. Upon landing in Mexico, I manually selected the Telcel network (T-Mobile's roaming partner), and everything worked fine for the first two days.
However, on the third day, I noticed that my mobile data stopped working, even though it was turned on. What's frustrating is that I couldn't reach customer service. Every time I tried to call 611 or local customer support, I received a "Conditional call forwarding active" message. I tried all the short codes(https://www.t-mobile.com/support/plans-features/self-service-short-codes), but nothing helped-I couldn't get through to anyone. The only calls I could make were to U.S. numbers, but not to T-Mobile support.
After spending two days trying to get help from T-Mobile's prepaid customer service, I was told that if 75% of my U.S. data was used, they block international roaming. This was a surprise to me, but I found out that many others have faced this issue.
Since my Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra supports two eSIMs (though only one can be active at a time), I decided to buy an eSIM from Airalo instead of dealing with the hassle of visiting a Telcel store and trying to translate everything. I purchased a 5GB plan through their website, activated it using a QR code, and it worked seamlessly.
Here’s the breakdown of the eSIM purchase:
- Telcel eSIM
- Subtotal: $23.50 USD
- Discount: $2.35 USD (via an online coupon)
- Order Total: $21.15 USD
- Package: Chorro Fon 5GB - 30 Days
When I returned to the U.S., my 5G data worked just like before.
The takeaway: T-Mobile can stop your international roaming at any time, so it’s a good idea to have a backup plan ready.
