Home internet wifi constantly dropping signal

I signed up for residential internet last week and set up the gateway last Thursday. Friday was a slow work day, but I did not notice any problems. Over the weekend streamed movies and shows without issue. This morning I started work at 8:30 am. It is now 11:15 am and the WiFi signal has dropped 9 times. It is impossible to get any work done. Have reset the gateway, no change. Having some big regrets. Wondering if I should try connecting to a router before I give up (or get fired).
