purchase tmobile gateway outright

recently browsing/ window shopping and saw people selling tmobile’s new gateway. is that a thing? are we able to swap out the rental unit for one purchased from someone or are those gonna be hot items that wont activate? and even if can be done will doing so save on rental fees in the long run or not really save much dough? previously when we had cable services some fairly major savings possible by using a compatible unit we bought outright. just curious for now.

No, do not purchase any T-Mobile gateway from anyone.  There have been previous comments of others buying them, and then cannot get them activated because they are damaged, stolen, or not returned to T-Mobile.

The T-Mobile gateway rental is all-inclusive in your $50/month subscription, so there are no additional rental fees, taxes, or other charges or fees.  You would not save anything by purchasing your own gateway.  The gateway has to be returned to T-Mobile after cancelling the service, or incur up to a $370 charge.

There are no rental fees for the equipment (flat rate for service, equipment, taxes, etc.) so not sure what the benefit would be to purchasing a TMHI gateway. Are you seeing the T-Mobile-branded version of the gateway or the full version? I didn't think non-TMHI gateways would work with the service.
