Question on Fast 5688W
New owner (one week) of Fast 5688W and so far very happy with overall performance. Have had a few times where the gateway stops doing its thing and pops up message about "communication problem". Waiting to see if that is gonna be a problem…
BUT, my question today is: Can I leave the gateway powered up/turned on 24 hours a day, or is it better to turn it off at night? No help on this question from the instructions in the box.

You can leave the gateway on 7x24 and it should not hurt it.
If it is reporting a "communication problem" it is probably dropping the cellular connection. You might want to get familiar with the T-Mobile home internet mobile application on your phone so you can manage the gateway. It is not super informative but it is the only way to manage the gateway to make changes as there is no management via the browser. The browser connection just shows very basic reporting so it has limited value.
