26 TopicsSudden terrible (and strange) data speeds at home, TMo Tells me the towers are "fine"
I'll try to be brief, but have a bit of data to share. First, let me state that T-Mobile supports reps are super nice, BUT cannot think outside of the narrow box they are trained in and really can't help much. I have contacted and been on the phone with them 2 times now for hours trying to figure this problem out. Said they were going to toss it to network engineers and get back to me. Well, problem still exists, no call back, still getting really really awful speeds for no reason that I can think of other than tower or transport issues. Also, while I am not professing to be an expert in this arena, I am actually a network and infrastructure engineer at a massive/global manufacturing company by trade and have been for 2 decades now so I am very familiar with this space. The important bits: T-Mobile Magenta Max (Veteran) Family Plan (so effectively unlimited data and something like 40GB or 60GB tethering, which we never use). 6 Lines (2 lines are in TX and have NO issues at all, the other 4 are in Virginia, we are all having issues at home) Had the same plan for almost 5 years now and this has never happened. Live in a rural area, but we have one tower that is .6 miles from my house. It is on a small mountain and I have a direct line of site, unobstructed to it. I get about 2-3 bars 5G or, if I set it to LTE for preferred, I get full bars. 2 Fridays ago, I was doing some testing of speeds around my property outside. We wrote down download and upload speeds in about 25 different areas around the house. The average of all of these was around 60 Mbps/5 Mbps. This is actually not the fastest, but suitable considering the area. This was on 5G. About a week ago, we started getting TERRIBLE performance on our phones. I am talking less than 1Mbps-2 Mbps down and like 50 Mbps upload for some reason, consistently. This happens on 3 different android phones (Pixels and Galaxy), and an iPhone 14. I get the same exact speed range no matter if I force 4G, 5G and no matter where i am at on the property for the most part. When we go elsewhere and run Speedtests, our speed is as would be expected for the most part. Like in a different city where I work. When I test via hotspot or tether, again..speeds exactly the same range of speed . A few other things that may be related (since they seem to be data related) None of these 4 lines can dial data-related short codes (i.e. #WEB#). We either get a message stating this Service is not available (or valid) your your account type -or- it will spin and then come back after like 2 minutes and say "Connection problem or invalid MMI Code" When I look at my account online, it says for these lines that we have used 0.00GB of data which is not accurate at all. Again, these may not be related, but a little bit suspect IMO. When the reps say they look a the tower, there is no enhancement or upgrade going on. OK, fine but that doesn't mean something isn't messed up. There clearly is something going on. I know the exact tower identifier I am using (again, there is only one here) but they cannot confirm they are looking at the right one bc they say they don't have that info (comeon...really?) I use multiple sources for testing speed and they are all fairly in alignment. I am not exaggerating when I say I am getting such slow speeds, even on 5G or LTE. I tested just a minute ago and it was 876k down and 27 Mbps up. It's not congestion There is just no way. To start, most people in this part of my county either don't have mobile phones still/yet (farming community) and, if they do, they use either Verizon or US Cellular. Population density is very sparse and we are not a place where people come in and out of and demand changes. So to go from 30-40Mbps average to 1.5Mbps or less in 2 weeks seems super far fetched. I am frustrated bc I keep getting told that it will get looked into but doesn't seem to be an I never get a call back and the problem remains. I am at a loss on what to do. We rely on mobile phones this far out and this is frankly unacceptable. We are paying lot for nothing it seems. Does anyone have any advice or suggestions at all?Solved2.2KViews2likes33ComentariosSignificant Drop off in home internet speed
I signed up with T Mobile Home Internet in February 2021. At the time, they told me that I was in an excellent coverage area and would get at a minimum 50 mbps. I had no issues and did receive 50+ mbps until last week. Now i receive 6-7 mdps, occasionally reaching 10-12. I have spent 3+ hours on the phone with service reps and tech reps only for them to tell me that I am in a poor coverage area and cannot get anymore than what I am currently getting. How can i go from a excellent coverage area to a poor coverage area in 1 day? This is deceptive practices by T Mobile, selling you on 50 and charging you for 50 only to throttle you later on because of "upgrades to the tower" with no ETA on when or if you will be put in a better coverage area. Buyer beware. this is a shady compay with shady business practices2KViews0likes10Comentariosslow speed on home internet
Just got the tower and installed it with ease. I'm getting a "very good"signal at best after I tried it in many different spots around my house. It's working fine when I have only one device connected but as soon as add another one (my laptop) it slows down the overall speed on both devices quite a bit. I can't imagine how slow it will be after I connectmy other 4 home devices…any tips on how to improve or fix this issue withthe connection/speed?1.9KViews0likes9ComentariosTorrent download speed is terrible
Legal torrents of course like Linux stuff. Ever since getting the silver can, torrent download speed is very sporadic and very slow. 2 Mbps is about as fast as I can get with it usually averaging about 650 Kbps. Sometimes it just starts slowing down for no reason to maybe 10 Kbps. Really strange. Regular Internet speed is around 160 Mbps and that's on a Google mesh. I'm currently using qBittorrent with UTP only and some other tweaks. Couldn't get Bittorent to go faster than 200 Kbps. Anyone found a solution to this?1.6KViews0likes2ComentariosVelocidad de descarga
Home internet was told I would be in 5G coverage area but map only shows 4G. Modem shows 4 signal bars. When I reboot modem I get download speeds up to about 62 meg. After about 5 or 6 minutes it drops to anywhere from 8 to 15. Is there possibly something wrong with the modem? Has been this way since I got it about a month ago.Solved834Visto4likes8ComentariosWhat I did to get better connection without antenna, Bucket idea
I've had my T-Mobile Trash can for over a year already and did a lot of experimenting with it as far as location and how to get he best reception for the least money. I noticed while I'm 3-4 miles from any tower , I would get very little reception at least anything good while in the house. And I was correct while in the house it was terrible slower than slow lucky to get 1.5 down with 2 bars showing for my primary signal and nothing for my secondary. So, before I jump out and spend a small fortune on an antenna and cables , I took the cheap approach to see if it would even work in my area . I placed the trashcan inside a 5-gallon bucket with a lid on it upside down with one smaller entry hole cut into the bottom for electric and any drainage from dew buildup. While in the bucket I rotated the trashcan to get the best reception and marked it there, I also set the trashcan in the bucket but not on the lid but instead raised it on top a small empty coffee can so if any water or condensation were inside it would quickly drain out before ever coming near the height of the unit. Strapped it down from the winds and snow and now I get a primary signal of -104 dbm which is not that great and secondary signal of -92 dbm whereas now I get a constant download speed of 80-150 Mbps and uploads of 12-19 Mbps.. Been out there for almost a year and doing its job without dumping 4-5 hundred on an antenna that who knows if it will work on the next model that comes out.634Visto4likes4ComentariosModernization speeds all over the place
Hi, We live in a rural area and rarely get over 2 bars of cell service on LTE with download speeds MAYBE as good as 15mbps. Recently, things got worse and our bars have been dropping to nothing, or 1 bar, with speeds of under 1mbps. I called T-Mobile and was told that they were doing Modernization of the towers and that it should be done within a few days. Fast forward to today (a week later) speeds were still bad until this morning when I woke up to 2 bars of 5G with download speeds of over 100mbps! To my delight, I thought we were getting somewhere and that T-Mobile had finally delivered on the promise they made over a year ago that things were being upgraded and improved. That lasted for approximately 1 hour, then we dropped off the face of the earth again, back down to record low, unusable LTE speeds of less than 1mbps. My question is, obviously we now know we are capable of receiving 5G and super good speeds, but my worry is that this happened by accident or some fluke and we won't be getting anywhere near this once modernization is complete. Any insight into how this modernization works, the technical side of these things, or if we should hold our breath would be great. As I'm writing this, I now have 1 bar of 5G back and getting 70.5 mbps down! Please Lord, please let this hold! Hubby and I have been working from home for the last year with terrible speeds, and have been praying for a solution this wholetime. Thanks for any insight! McMurray499Visto0likes2ComentariosSignal strength VAPORIZED. More downtime with T-Mobile Home Internet than I've ever had with any other ISP.
I got sick of the constant downtime that I experienced with Cox every time a tropical storm came through Louisiana, so I decided to give T-Mobile a try. There's no phone lines to fall down so the internet is always up, right? And since I already have 4 phone lines and 3 cellular devices with T-Mobile, it seemed like the right course of action and the price was attractive, although I would GLADLY PAY MORE for faster data (I can keep dreaming, right?) WRONG. T-Mobile home internet goes down like 5 times a day. I used to call it in but it happens now so frequently that it's a waste of time. They would tell me they're doing upgrades and to wait it out, toggle the power switch on/off and it usually came back on in 3-4 minutes. I stuck with T-Mobile thinking those "upgrades" would pay off, but they haven't and it's actually taken a turn for the worse. The outages are now lasting between 5-10 minutes and on top of that, I have an entirely new problem that didn't exist before: LOW SIGNAL STRENGTH. For 7 months, my gateway has been sitting in the same exact place. It's positioned right in front of the window, on top of 4 milk crates because it's the only place in the house where I can get 4 bars, but that's all come to an end because all of the sudden, out of nowhere, I only gets 2 bars now. This happened about 4 days ago and I haven't moved any furniture or anything, it just dropped from 4 bars to 2 and there's no other place in the house where I can get a decent signal. The only way I can get 3 bars, is IF I TAKE IT OUTSIDE. What's strange is that the symptoms are not consistent. Sometimes the cellular will go out on all my devices (which makes sense if T-Mobile is working on the tower) but other times, it's just the home internet that goes down. It's about 50/50. Do gateways just go bad? Is there any kind of extender?439Visto2likes4ComentariosSpeed Drops the regains and restart ?
I have had the T-Mobile trash can for about a year and my speeds have always been kind of slow like 30 -60 down and 7-9 up, now that's fine for me but noticed this past week the speeds have changed . they are fine for about 1-2 hours into using the internet during OFF PEAK or ON PEAK times. Then the speeds would drop to 3-8 down and 7-8 up. thanks right the up speed stays the same and this will continue BUT the minute I RESTART the trash can and wait the 2 minutes for it to come up the speed returns to normal for another 1-2 hours then it all begins again. Now like I said this just started this week and never did this in the past year. Any ideas ?358Visto0likes10Comentarios
