Home Internet Static IP
Is it possible to get a static IP with the 5G Home Internet service? Normally I wouldn't need it but since my connection dies at least once a week I get a new IP every time my modem reboots. I work from home and whenever my IP changes I have to update some of my clients' firewalls.40KViews29likes95ComentariosRe: 5G home internet keeps dropping
@jdt254already linked to my overheating post. Even with two cooling fans running when I was using the built-in wi-fi I would still lose my connection every few days. Offloading the wi-fi to a dedicated router helped me get an 18 day uptime. I think I managed to crash it last night with a solid upload and download running at the same time. I'm also only getting a 4G connection. If you're getting 5G speeds it may run even hotter. I would definitely switch to a dedicated wi-fi router though. Rebooting twice a month is much better than rebooting twice a day.29Visto8likes0ComentariosHome Internet Overheating
This is primarily a reference post related overheating. If you want to read my full background, see the link at the bottom. The Nokia device seems to have an overheating issue. For me that mean things would run fine for a few hours or even days and then suddenly speeds would drop so low it appeared to be completely offline. Even though the ambient temperature in the room was in the 60s and the device itself never felt that warm, adding a couple cooling fans drastically improved air flow throughout the device andcompletely resolved my issues. Here's a link to the fans I purchased. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00JLV4BWC You may only need one but since these came as a set I put one beneath the device and the other one on top. This has ensured constant airflow throughout the device and kept my modem from having any issues. I am fairly certain that the tower I am connected to does not support 5G but I have been very happy with my consistent 4G speeds that average around 100 Mbps download and 50 Mbps upload. https://community.t-mobile.com/tv-home-internet-7/weekly-reboot-3536513KViews7likes31ComentariosRe: Thermal Issues With Home Internet Gateway/Router as a Cause of Dropped/Slow Internet or Wi-Fi Connection
Been there. Done that. Here's my public record of troubleshooting over the last few months. https://community.t-mobile.com/tv-home-internet-7/weekly-reboot-35365 I summarized my findings for easy reference here. https://community.t-mobile.com/tv-home-internet-7/home-internet-overheating-36560 And I will add that my current uptime is only 3 days and 16 hours. The last reboot I documented in my Weekly Reboot thread was probably around a week ago during a period of heavy bidirectional transfer. But then I had to reboot a few days ago when I wasn't even on my computer. Rebooting is annoying but I'd rather do that once a week as opposed to the issues I was having with my previous provider where a reboot did nothing. I'm in more control now. I'm only using T-Mobile for home internet and my phones have been on Verizon for years. If Verizon starts offering a similar service in my area I will be quick to try it out and switch if it's more stable.13Visto2likes0ComentariosRe: T-Mobile Home dropping Internet
I actually recommend the overheating issue on the forums a lot and I am not affiliated with T-Mobile. I've never heard of T-Mobile acknowledging an overheating issue. The overheating issue is also not usually detectable by touch and it's not helped by a cooler room. Although I've suggested adding a fan on several posts, I've only heard a couple follow-up posts that followed through and they were successful.12Visto1like0Comentarios
