Tarifas internacionales usando Llamadas Wi-Fi
Hola,
I'm very confused about the international rates when making a WiFi call to a number overseas on a T-Mobile One plan. According to the support page, which I have read a thousand times, wifi calls are billed at 0.20$ per minute to most countries.
But I've been now billed over $200 (over 3.00$ per minute) for one call to a Netherlands mobile and a second call to a Switzerland landline. How is this possible?
If the policy on the website is incorrect, it should be fixed. I would also ask to be reimbursed for these two calls as the policy was misleading (I would have called from another phone had I not already read the policy and been assured the rate would be 0.20$ per minute.
text and link below: l
How do I get this resolved? The customer care people I've spoken to can't figure out what I'm talking about.

A $200 charge on my bill would definitely be shocking! Wi-Fi calling is a great way to stay connected when you are in an area without T-Mobile coverage or the coverage is not strong enough and it also provides some benefits when roaming internationally. When in the U.S. Wi-Fi calls placed to other countries are subject to international long distance rates, based on your account/features you have.
You can see our international rates for any country you want to call here. Llamar al exterior | Servicios internacionales desde EE.UU. | T-Mobile. If you opt to add our stateside international feature to your account, you can get discounted rates or even unlimited calling to landlines and mobile numbers in other countries.
I think the confusion here is that when you are roaming in another country (be it a simple global country) all calls are $0.25 a min incoming and outgoing (if it is to another simple global country). The Wi-Fi calling benefits come into play if you are making and receiving calls back to the U.S with Wi-Fi calling enabled otherwise it will still be $0.25.
For more information on WiFi calling and WiFi calling billing, you can check out our Llamadas Wi-Fi de T-Mobile support document for all the details.

T Mobile's international calling policy is too confusing and I am sure it is to cheat people and make money. I was charges 54$ and 66$ for 18 minutes and 22 minutes call to my mom. Ruthless and Cheaters

So when you are in abroad, calling to US numbers from US numbers via Wi-Fi calling, you still get charged 25c/min? Both In and out going calls…?
What about people (who are in US) calling us (outside of US)? Do they get charged as well?
SO confusing… - magenta3459341Newbie Caller
This is true, I emailed the presidents office for Tmobile. They realized everyone was using WIFI calling so changed their terms, very sneaky and manipulating. Not a very smart move to "loyal" customers in my opinion and very deceitful. I have looked at other companies since as I just don't trust them or their billing. They make their plans beyond complicated to try and trick you and it works naturally in their favor.

There used to be free calling over WIFI. Tmobil quietly blocked that feature. Maybe that is causing confusion. If you used to make free WIFI calls before, these unexpected high bills are surely confusing. I also got caught with $200 bill for one call to Europe. First I thought that that I made some mistake. Until I researched what happened. BTW, Tmobil does not allow wifi calls in airplane mode as one responder suggested. At least not from US. Their monthly plan for $15/ month lowers the rates per minute, but I do not make so many calls to make the plan a money saver. So it is Whatsup or Viber for me.
The only free calling on WiFi that I recall is to US numbers.
Also, I just made and received calls over WiFi with my phone in Airplane Mode with the WiFi turned back on. So, I don't think it's on T-Mobile but something with the phone manufacturer.
Using Viber, Skype or some other VoIP service is a safe plan.Well, I used to use WIFI for both US and Europe calls with T-Mobile for free. It was years back. As for phone manufacturer causing the current WIFI issue, your suggestion is plausible, but not likely. On cruise ships I use ship's WIFI in airplane mode with the same model, Samsung A8+. Not a T-Mobil phone, but works in airplane mode. So likelier culprit for blocked free WIFI calls is the service provider.
Based on your info I would now say that they block WIFI calling for the outside phones only. With their phones, I could still use the free WIFI on domestic calls, but no longer international. Having unlimited plan anyway, there is no reason to restrict my future upgrades to their limited assortment.

We have made use of the free wifi intl. calling back to U.S. for years when when abroad. (We have been Covid bound in U.S. since March.) Never had a problem - but can't state for sure we ever hit 2 hours of calling - altho 90% I must have on a trip or 2. Nothing in their info, afaik, states there is a limit.

Hola
I'm still a bit unclear about Wi-Fi calling while traveling abroad. I have T-Mobile One plan, and I'm in Latvia entire for two months. During this time, while in Latvia, I'm connected to Wi-Fi when making calls to the US landline, 1-800, and mobile numbers. Calls are work-related mainly conference calls. I was told that these calls will be free as long as I'm connected to Wi-Fi, but now after first couple of days I have received a text from T-Mobile that I have already 2 hours of international calls, I'm confused. How come the text says that I have 2hours of international calls if I have been using Wi-Fi calling? Also, now I'm confused about what will be my international rate (charge) and what is the Wi-Fi calling rate while in Latvia? Can I see somewhere what is my bill so far for this month based on these international calls?
Gracias

Hi, I would argue the TMO Chart is confusing because it doesn't speak to WiFi calling back to USA. I just talked to a TMO customer service rep and he told me I would be charged for WiFi calls at the regular roaming rate. I have always understood when calling the home market, in my case the USA, while on WiFi would eliminate a roaming charge.
The chart on TMO's web site (in this thread) doesn't indicate if what you are charged when you make or receive calls BACK to the USA--it specifically states "When outside the US ... you'll be charged Simple Global country."
I think TMO should add a When outside of US section to the "Receiving calls and messages Making a call to a US number" to clarify what happens with WiFi calls when calling back to the USA. It would avoid confusion that even your telephone representatives are experiencing.
