phone/account issue

My father got me a phone years ago. But due to me being a child and my father an adult I wasn't aware of the agreement he had in place but long story short the lady ups and leaves and I'm stuck using the phone on only wifi. Now that I'm older could I just pay off the phone and switch it to a new service provider?  This is a sprint device and from what I cant tell it was a sprint account
