I can answer that, no it likely can not be returned because T-mobile.
The rest of your questions remain unanswered not because no one knows the answer, but because of the obvious explanation, of which I believe you have deduced already.
Yes it's T-Mobile, no they won't stop, and they sure as hell ain't gona admit it here.
P.S. T-Mobile does something unique to their sim cards as well, which makes them easily identifiable and tracked online. How do I know this? Well, I don't know exactly how it works, but everything since I switched service to T-Mobile, hiding my identity online has become virtually impossible, whereas it was not prior to.
