In my experience, arrivals can be just as stressful as departures. Finding the right gate for the connection flight or finding the baggage claim or parking lot can be rough without having the phone to reference some important information. A few things I've done in the past to help make things a little smoother are
- During the flight, I'll close out recent apps to make sure that something random isn't trying too hard to find data. Keeping a few things open is usually ok, so I'll keep things like my boarding passes, rideshare apps, or one game.
- Turn off airplane mode as soon as they turn off the seatbelt lights. This gives the phone a little extra time to find a signal, catch up on all the texts or voicemails I got during the flight, and connect to the ever-crucial data.
- If my data doesn't come back within a minute or two, I'll go to settings and toggle cellular data. Turn it off, count to 20, then turn it right back on. That usually gets me connected and running.
That transition time is rough enough, and it sucks to have your phone add to the awful. Hopefully these tricks will help you a little the next time you're traveling.
