T-Mobile's international travel plans vs eSims
eSims have gained in popularity. Our T-mobile plan includes free data while traveling in Europe (we're U.S. based) but 25 cents a minute for phone calls is expensive. Does T-Mobile have some other International plan for phone calls and how does that compare to our getting a local eSim carrier?
Actually, T-mobile's international data pass seems competitive with other eSims. They said it's $50 for 30 days. An eSim data & phone account from a reputable European-based firm was $54 for 20 days. Thirty days is more than I need but I'd get to use my same phone number. Am I missing something? I assume the data speeds are the same with each plan because they rely on the same local networks, yes?
I will be traveling to Canada from the US on a cruise this week. We will not be purchasing the on board internet service. Do I need an international plan for the Canada ports we will be visiting?

Using cellular on a cruise ship will cost $6+ a minute and $1+ per text message. Cruise ships use their own micro towers that connect to satellites to provide service. You do not want to use your device in cellular mode on or within a couple of miles of a cruise ship!
TMobil global plus costs an extra $50/month and you get 15GB of data. I am in Greece and will be here for months so it's not turning out good for me. I found a plant for $70 that is giving me unlimited data for 3 full months? I can do everything I do back home including Prime, Apple TV etc. My T-Mobil global plus would expire in a few days.
If I cancel my Global plus plan and receive a call or make a call to the states, what will it cost me? It's not worth paying $50/mo for something that I am not using.

Depending on your plan, you may have free service in Canada (and Mexico) in the ports, same as you have in US. Just returned a couple weeks ago. You can even use your hotspot in port for other devices.
Other international ports, you have free limited service………. slow data and 25 cent per minute voice. We cruise a lot and always use our free, included international service (Go5G plus 55) in Europe, Australia, Caribbean, etc. Never bought an additional plan or foreign sim. You will get hit up for incoming spam calls (2 minutes, 50 cents each), so be careful of that.
Cruise ships must turn off their “cellular at sea” system within a few miles of land, so no worry of accidentally connecting to the ship’s expensive service.
